ITALIA (ITALY): VENECIA (VENEZIA) [ES][EN]

           Una vez más me tengo que disculpar ante el largo periodo de tiempo que llevo sin publicar ninguna entrada sobre algún viaje que haya realizado. Y antes de continuar con otros destinos, me gustaría compartir la última ciudad que visitamos durante nuestra estancia en Italia. Dicha ciudad es conocida por sus históricos carnavales, festival de cine y como no, por el gran número de canales que hay en ella. Sí, se trata de Venecia. 

Por lo general en Italia durante las dos primeras semanas de septiembre, sigue haciendo buen tiempo, y con pocas lluvias. Mala suerte la nuestra que unos cuantos días tuvimos mal tiempo, y el día que fuimos a Venecia, fue uno de ellos.

           One more time I have to excuse me for a long period of time I've been unpublished any posts about any trip that I have made. And before proceeding to other destinations, I would share the last city we visited during our stay in Italy. This city is known for its historic carnivals, film festival and of course, by the large number of channels in it. Yes, this is Venice.

Usually in Italy during the first two weeks of September, continues to make good time, and with little rain. Our bad luck that a few days we had bad weather, and the day we went to Venice, was one of them

CÓMO LLEGAR (HOW TO ARRIVE)

           Una vez más, partimos como ciudad de origen Verona, Estación Porta Nuova - Venezia Santa Lucia, y nos moveremos hasta Venecia en tren. El viaje lo realizaremos con la misma compañía con la que nos desplazamos hasta Florencia (Firenze) y para consultar horarios y precios, os vuelvo a dejar la página web de TRENITALIA. En nuestro caso, decidimos que lo mejor era coger uno de los primeros trenes que salían por la mañana para poder aprovechar bien el día allí, y como no, buscando lo más asequible. Encontramos unos billetes de segunda clase, cuyo tren salía aproximadamente cada hora. Ida y vuelta por persona fueron 14.80€. Tampoco aceptan ningún tipo de carné de estudiantes para descuentos en el precio de los billetes.

Sin embargo en el trayecto de vuelta a Verona, el tren en el que fuimos era de una calidad superior, y con dos pisos, por lo que encontramos sitio para sentarnos sí o sí, y disfrutar de las vistas de los paisajes de la toscana o del contraste de canales y edificios.

IMPORTANTE: Si vais en segunda clase, debéis saber que las butacas no están numeradas y que pueden vender más billetes que asientos tiene el tren. De hecho, a nosotras nos tocó ir de pie un buen rato del trayecto, al igual que otros muchos que llegaron justos de tiempo. De pie, o sentados en el suelo como podíamos.

NOTA: Vuelvo a hacer especial hincapié en la verificación del billete en las máquinas que hay en la estación, cerca de los andenes. Es importante que lo hagáis, porque si una vez en el tren y el revisor os pide los billetes para picarlos y no se encuentran verificados, os puede hacer bajar del tren.

           One more time, we start as origin city Verona Porta Nuova Station - Venezia Santa Lucia, and we will move to Venice by train. The journey will carry it out with the same company with which we move to Florence (Firenze) and for times and prices, I again leave TRENITALIA website. In our case, we decided it was best to catch an early train out in the morning to take advantage of the day there, and of course, looking for the most affordable. We found a second class ticket, the train left every hour. Return per person was 14.80€. Not do they accept any student card for discounts on ticket prices.


But on the way back to Verona, the train where we went was of a higher quality, and with two floors, so we found place to sit (of course), and enjoy views of the landscapes of Tuscany or contrast canals and buildings.
IMPORTANT: If you go second class, you must know that the seats are not numbered and they can sell more tickets than seats has the train. In fact, we played we go stand a good time of the journey, like many others who arrived just in time. Standing or sitting on the floor as we could.


NOTE: I'll be a special emphasis on verifying the ticket machines at the station, near the platforms. It is important that you do, because if once on the train and airline reviewer asks you to chop and are not verified, you can get off the train.

QUÉ VER (THINGS TO SEE)

           La propia ciudad de Venecia es ya un monumento en sí mismo. Nada más salir de la estación de tren, nos encontramos de pleno con el Gran Canal (o en italiano, Canale Grande). Las vistas son impresionantes. Lo que en una ciudad normal y corriente sería una calzada con coches, taxis y autobuses, aquí es agua con barcas y góndolas. Aunque el día que visitamos la ciudad el tiempo no nos acompañó mucho, mereció la pena.

           The city of Venice is already a monument in itself. Just outside the train station, we are full with the Grand Canal (or Italian, Canale Grande). The views are breathtaking. What in an ordinary town would be a road with cars, taxis and buses, here is water with boats and gondolas. Although the day we visited the city the weather was not us much, it was worth it.

Nada más salir de la estación, a la izquierda, se encuentra un puesto de información turística, donde puedes comprar mapas o te obsequian con folletos de los lugares más visitados y turísticos de la ciudad. Nosotras adquirimos un mapa, y creo recordar que nos costó unos 3€. Sinceramente, no nos hizo falta. Los lugares más importantes se encuentran señalados con flechas negras sobre carteles amarillos colocados en las paredes de los edificios, por lo que no necesitáis mapa para llegar a ellos, simplemente seguid las flechas, y al mismo tiempo veréis.

           Si continuamos un poco más por la izquierda, llegamos al Ponte degli Scalzi , que junto a otros tres puentes que se encuentran repartidos por el resto de la ciudad, son los únicos que atraviesan el Gran Canal.

Just outside the station to the left, you will find a tourist information booth where you can buy maps and get complimentary brochures of the most visited and touristic places in the city. We acquired a map, and I remember it cost about 3 €. Honestly, we did not need. The most important places are marked with black arrows on yellow posters in the walls of the buildings, so you need not map to reach them, just follow the arrows, and simultaneously see.

           If we go a little more to the left, we arrive at Ponte degli Scalzi, along with three other bridges that are scattered around the rest of the city, are the only ones to cross the Grand Canal.

           Como he comentado anteriormente, para llegar a las zonas más conocidas de la ciudad, seguimos las flechas en las direcciones que indicaban. Callejeamos bastante hasta llegar, por fin, a la Piazza San Marco. La verdad es que hay más piazzas en la ciudad, pero ésta es la única reconocida como tal, las demás son denominadas Campo. Al encontrarse en una zona con un nivel mucho más bajo que el resto de la ciudad, en cuanto sube un poco el agua, se inunda. De cualquiera manera, la ciudad se encuentra prepara para estas situaciones y suele montar una especie de plataforma con uno o dos escalones de altura para evitar mojarse los pies.

NOTA: No está permitido sentarse ni comer en los bordillos que rodean la Basílica. Es importante saberlo porque si tenéis pensado comer de bocadillo o de porción de pizza, deberéis encontrar otro sitio, ya que los propios restaurantes son pequeños y en días de lluvia suelen estar abarrotados.

           As I mentioned earlier, to reach the best known areas of the city, we follow the arrows at the addresses indicated. We were walking enough until finally the Piazza San Marco. The truth is that there's piazzas in the city, but this is the only recognized as such, the others are called Campo. Being in an area with a much lower level than the rest of the city, as the water rises a little, it floods. Either way, the city is prepared for these situations and usually mounted a kind of platform with one or two steps of height to avoid wet feet.

NOTE: It is not allowed to sit or eat on curbs surrounding the Basilica. This is important because if you have thought of eating sandwich or slice of pizza, will have to find somewhere else, as the restaurants themselves are small and on rainy days often very crowded.

           Una vez en la Piazza San Marco, se encuentra la Basílica de San Marco, que fue pensada como una prolongación del Palazzo Ducale (hablaré un poco más adelante de él) y cuya entrada es totalmente gratuita. Una vez dentro de la basílica, podéis ver la Tabla de Oro, pero sabed que para ello debéis pagar. Desconozco el precio.

           Once in Piazza San Marco, is the Basilica of San Marco, which was intended as an extension of Palazzo Ducale (I'll talk a little ahead of him) and whose entrance is free. Once inside the basilica, you can see the Table de Oro, but know that you must pay for it. I do not know the price.

También se encuentra el Campanario, el Palazzo Ducale y la Torre del Reloj.

En cuanto al Palazzo Ducale tengo que deciros que el precio de la entrada es alto, y una vez más os recuerdo que con el carné de estudiante o internacional, el precio es reducido a la mitad. En este caso, la entrada de adulto es de 16€ por persona y con el carné se reduce a 8€. 

Regarding the Palazzo Ducale I have to tell you that the ticket price is high, and once again I remind you that with your student card or international, the price is halved. In this case, the adult ticket is 16€ per person and the card is reduced to 8€.

No os olvidéis de pasar por el Puente de los Suspiros, que une el Palazzo Ducale con lo que era entonces la prisión de la Inquisición, al cual se accede desde el interior del Palazzo. Su nombre se debe a los suspiros de los prisioneros cuando veían por última vez el cielo y el mar.

Coincidió que a la semana siguiente de nuestra estancia, era el certamen de cine de Venecia, por lo que cuando visitamos la ciudad, estaban rematando los últimos preparativos. A todos los que tengáis la oportunidad de ir, no la dejéis pasar.

Do not forget to stop by the Bridge of Sighs, linking the Palazzo Ducale with what was then the prison of the Inquisition, which is accessed from inside the Palazzo. Its name comes from the sighs of the prisoners when they saw last time the sky and sea.

It coincided that the next week of our stay was the Venice film festival, so when we visited the city, were finishing the final preparations. To all who have the chance to go, do not let it pass.

DÓNDE COMER (WHERE TO EAT)

           Seamos realistas, Venecia es una ciudad con espacio más limitado que cualquier otra que podamos conocer. De esta manera, los locales y restaurantes que hay por las zonas turísticas, son pequeños y con un precio un tanto superior al de otras ciudades. También existe la posibilidad de comer de bocadillo, porciones de pizza para llevar o similares. Nosotras en su momento nos decantamos por lo segundo, que es mucho más asequible.

           Let us be realistic, Venice is a city with more limited than any other that we know space. Thus, local and restaurants along the tourist areas are small and priced somewhat higher than other cities. There is also the possibility of eating sandwich, lots of takeout pizza or similar. We at the time we opted for the latter, which is much more affordable.

CURIOSIDADES (CURIOSITIES)

           Si callejeáis por la zona de la Basílica, con un poco de suerte y en hora punta, podréis ver y oír cantar a los gondoleros en la orilla de alguna calle. Es algo digno de presenciar, ya que no siempre existirá esa oportunidad. Cuidado con los grupos de turistas si se encuentran cerca de algo así, sobre todo asiáticos, que se ponen lo más cerca de ellos para grabarles y y fotografiarles.

           Siendo la ciudad muy conocida por sus carnavales, sabed que podéis comprar alguna máscara (de imitación o de recuerdo) en las tiendas de Venecia. Por supuesto, también existen talleres en los que los maestros realizan las máscaras a medida, a mano y de forma personalizada, pero su precio es un poco alto. De cualquier manera, si compráis una como recuerdo del viaje y queréis que sea similar a las originales, olvidaos de las que llevan colores flúor, purpurina sobre un pegote de cola y similares. Fijaos en los colores de las que se encuentran expuestas en los escaparates de los talleres de máscaras: destacan el dorado, marfil, negro, cobre, granate, plata y verdes y azules oscuros.

           Si os fijáis, las góndolas son negras, pero esto no fue así hasta 1562, año en el que se decretó una ley por la cual todas y cada una de las góndolas deberían tener el mismo color para evitar así ostentaciones. El color escogido fue el negro en recuerdo a los muertos por la peste.

           If you wander around the area of the Basilica, with a little luck and rush hour, you can see and hear singing gondoliers on the edge of a street. It is something to witness, as it will not always be that opportunity. Beware tour groups if they are close to something, especially Asians, who are placed closest to record them and and photographing them.

           As the city is famous for its carnival, know that you can buy a mask (imitation or souvenir) stores in Venice. Of course, there are workshops in which teachers perform as masks, hand and personalized way, but its price is a bit high. Either way, if you buy one as a souvenir of the trip and want to be similar to the original, forget the leading fluorine, glitter colors on a glob of glue and the like. Look at the colors found in the windows of shops masks: include gold, ivory, black, copper, maroon, silver and dark green and blue.

           If you look, gondolas are black, but this did not happen until 1562, year in which a law that every one of the gondolas should have the same color so to avoid ostentation was decreed. The color chosen was black in memory of those killed by the plague.
